Sadiq, Zaza, and Manny were busy coming up with ideas for their booth.

“We should bring laddu and halwa,” Sadiq said to his friends. “I can ask my mom to get some halwa from the Somali Mall.”

Vikram was at a table with Salma and Safwan, planning a booth about Indian and South Asian culture.

“Vikram, do you think your nani will make some laddu?” Sadiq leaned over to ask him.

“I bet she will,” said Vikram, grinning. “I’ll just tell her that you refuse to go to school if you don’t get any.”

“Don’t get me in trouble!” said Sadiq. He playfully tossed a crumpled sheet of paper at his friend.

Mr. Kim drew a large square on the whiteboard and then drew smaller squares inside it in a grid pattern.

“Once you know what cultural theme your booth will have, you can come write it in one of these squares,” he said. “Include names of the students who will be hosting the booth.”

One student from each table went to pick a square on the grid. Soon the grid was filled with names of countries and regions: India, Ireland, Cuba, Norway, West Africa, East Africa, Mexico, and more!
